My graduation project at the Delft University of Technology is executed for the Slovenian furniture producer Gonzaga. After an extensive internal and external research a strategical focus was determined for new innovation in product development. A new operational office furniture line meets the needs of the 'new office'. Mode is endlessly extendable in all sizes and directions to provide the workplace in every space for every task. Whether it is fixed and focussed, flexible or teamwork. The legs of the system can be replaced by pedestals to integrate support and storage functionality. The one-of-a-kind form and construction of the leg and arm give the system its characteristics. The aluminium cast arm is thereby officially protected for the form giving aspects. The new system makes use of standard industry parts which simplify logistics and reduce development and production cost significantly.

Gonzaga’s core competence is producing wood which is fully expressed in the executive range Most. The design and material usage of Most -which means bridge in Slovenian- is a balance between the rich, the classic and contemporary pure shapes. Most creates a sober and professional ambiance where work and relaxation are closely connected.

Let the Force Be With You. Light saber power creates a new dimension in the classic chess game and gives the opportunity to play in the dark. The game is fully made of PMMA and the light is provided by four LEDs situated in the corner of the board. The different pieces are given its characteristics by minimal adjustments of the basic shape.

Lesimpex is a market leader in home and garden furniture, making use of spruce and pine laths and beams. To stay ahead of the market and maintain the strong brand identity, they need to show innovative new products on the SUN fair in Rimini each year. For Lesimpex I developed several concepts which can be directly implemented in production. The two new Gazebos decrease the use of material to make transport cheaper and assembling easier. Shadow is provided by semi-transparent polyester textile. Where ëLiteí is constructed omitting the maximum amount of material, ëDuoí combines the sitting and gathering function under a roof.

The SUN 2008 fair in Rimini will be the moment for Lesimpex to present a new carport providing space for two cars. The roof is constructed from standard beams and can be closed with a vinyl screen to protect cars from rain, sun and snow. The combination of carports create a waving roof and very open look-through structure. The first possible client will be the town Nova Gorica where Lesimpex is situated. Many open and chaotic carparks create a unattractive environment. The construction is defined by external wood and steel engineers.

The Dutch telecommunication market is the strongest concurring market in its category. The market leader is KPN, which has a business unit offering wireless internet points throughout the Netherlands; HotSpots. The company asked us, a group of 6 people, to increase awareness of this service by developing a product. The assignment covers the whole design process; from internal and external analysis, conceptualization, detailing and financial planning. Within the companies new campaign we chose to focus on the youth for they will be the future customer. To upgrade the dusty image of KPN we combined the popular trend of retro gaming, the cool image of Atari games and the service of internet usage in one product; the ëRetoGameSpotí. The console will be placed at the bigger train stations. Primarily the console is a physical recognition of the integrated HotSpot (WiFi-service), secondary people can play simple but fun oldskool games while waiting for the train or bus to depart. Hi-scores, games and merchandise can be found in a special new website.

A new brake system for the largest revolving door in the world from the company Boon/Edam. By its weight the door has safety problems as it comes to braking in time. The extensions on the motors (red) solve this problem. The inertia of the door pushes a wheel to the upper part of the profile. This generates more force so the breaking can go much faster and slip wonít occur. The new braking unit can increase the braking performance with 29%. The unit was tested at a full-scale door. The new braking unit is a low-cost solution; less than Euro 100 on a Euro 15.000 door. However, the rails should be strengthened to prevent material from cracking.

For the company ButtonBoss in the Netherlands we were asked to redesign their current manual operated button press. With a group of five students my concept was chosen, which we fully optimized and built. The press works automatically when the slider is moved. 5000 pieces can be produced for only Euro 37,- per product.
